Abstract: This paper reports on the conduct of a detailed socio-economic survey of ten households living within South-West Mau Reserve. The survey represents one part of a wider socio-economic survey to define the nature, extent and value of forest utilisation by people living inside and outside the Reserve. This is being undertaken by the Kenya Indigenous Forest Conservation Project (KIFCON) a project being funded by the British Government to guide the assessment and management of Kenya's forests.
