The book provides a summary of the existing information about Kenya's indigenous forests, and is the product of work carried out by the Forestry Department of the Government of Kenya, under the KIFCON Programme (Kenya Indigenous Forest Conservation Programme) led by Daniel Mbengei as Programme Manager (Kenya Government) and Peter Wass as Programme Coordinator (ODA). Chapters 1-3 present the geographical background and basic data about the indigenous forests of Kenya, including types and areas. Three major functions and values of the forests are then described and assessed in Chapters 4-6: biodiversity, environmental services, and wood products respectively.People and forests are discussed in Chapters 7 and 8. First, the issue of population pressure is examined in Chapter 7. Chapter 8 reviews the different categories of forest users and the way they utilise forest products and resources. Further discussions and conclusions also follow in other chapters.en_US
