Abstract: Investigation on relation between crown and bole diameter of five tree species (Bischoffia javonica, Brachylaena huillensis, Juniperus procera, Maesopsis eminii and Vitex keniensis) was undertaken and revealed that there were positive and significant relations between the two parameters. The relationship developed for cedar was not affected by site. This relationship was found to be useful in the determination of sensitivity to crowding and possibly shade tolerance of a species. The Juniperus and Brachylaena relationships were therefore used to demonstrate the procedure in the development of a density control regime for a growing crop.
